    Microsoft Publisher 2013 Open License

Microsoft Publisher is an application used for producing and publishing different graphic design works. Despite sharing some similarities with Microsoft Word, Publisher differs from the word processor in many ways, as it is focused on layout,  arrangements and design as opposed to being used for word formatting or composition. Publisher brings the ability to design things to people who can’t afford to hire a professional graphic designer, or don’t have the proper high-end tools to produce complex and advanced designs, meaning that Publisher is mostly targeted towards small businesses as well as individuals.

What many people love about Publisher is that it is equipped with an easy to use interface, allowing even entry-level users to create unique, professional looking publications. What you make with Publisher is entirely up to you, the limit is nothing but your imagination. What Publisher really shines in is that the software is incredibly user-friendly and doesn’t require any prior knowledge about graphic design. With the provided tools to help you come up with designing, aligning things pixel-perfectly you can truly make your projects stunning and unique to what you want and need. Some of the most popular things people use Publisher for are posters, brochures, greeting cards, labels, flyers, certificates, invitations, however, you can make anything you desire, all you need is a little creativity and understanding of the application.

  • Some may say that Microsoft did not do a good job when updating Publisher 2013, however, despite not including any huge new features, there is quite a bit of improvement to already existing functionality, allowing Publisher 2013 to become a powerful tool regardless the lack of new capabilities. Let us take a look at these changes and enhancement, and how they can impact your workflow in a positive way.

    Updated interface
Just like every other Office 2013 application, due to the rebranding of the suite, Publisher received an update to its interface. Although most things are still in the same locations and the overall look and feel matches Publisher 2010’s, it is admittedly less cluttered and feels a lot cleaner and modern. The simplified ribbon interface makes it easier to see where tools are located and it comes with a separate File tab that allows you to perform basic functions such as Save, Open a project and create a New file, much like an ordinary File menu would. However, there are other things you can access from this File tab. The Info page lets you take a look at the properties of your document such as the file size, colour mode, and date of creation. You can also access the Print and Share pages from the File tab, allowing you to truly publish your Publisher documents with a convenient preview that is clearly visible due to the full page view provided in the File tab.

    New ways to insert pictures
Obviously, one of the biggest parts of working with Publisher is the fact that you can include image files, move them around and edit them as you like. As it is a key part of the application, Microsoft decided to make the menu more comprehensive. With that being said, you can now search and later on insert pictures from various sources, all accessible from the same menu. You can browse the local files on your computer or network, as always, but you can also search amongst the royalty-free photos and illustrations in the Office.com clip art gallery, or search online for images through Bing Image Search. This allows you to quickly get pictures into Publisher without having to leave the application, even if you need new ones.

    Better image editing
A key feature in any graphic designer application is the ability to edit images to your liking. While you can still use basic tools such as Brightness and Contrast, apply a Picture Style or put your images into a frame, you now have many advanced options to customise your images. These improved tools include more picture effects, a way for rotating images in three dimensions, more image frame options and a better way of handling background images.

    Text effects
Besides image effects, there are also several new text effects you can apply to your Publisher projects. This includes new shadows, bevels and even reflection glows to enhance the appearance of your text and add some visual interest when needed.
