  • Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016 Standard CAL

Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016 Standard Edition CAL - License

Collaboration is one of the most powerful tools available to businesses. It harnesses all the best ideas, abilities, knowledge, and strengths from an entire team, but in order to collaborate efficiently, you need the right set of programs.

Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016 Standard provides all of those programs, and with more CAL licenses, you can now provide more access to those programs on your server to more of your employees. That way, you’re increasing your collaborative abilities and increasing your efficiency at the same time.

    What Is Microsoft SharePoint Server?
The Microsoft SharePoint Server provides advanced collaboration tools that enable employees to together more productively. The server can be accessed remotely, allowing for collaboration to extend far beyond the office.
The programs provided by Microsoft SharePoint Server are designed to provide many different forums that optimize file sharing, data sharing, and communication.

    Versions of SharePoint
SharePoint is available in three versions: online, standard, and enterprise. SharePoint Online comes with many Office 365 suites and includes basic file sharing features. Standard has more advanced features that provide more improved collaboration and use, while Enterprise includes all the Standard features plus more business intelligence capabilities.

    What Is a CAL?
CAL stands for client access license, and it allows an individual to connect to the Microsoft SharePoint Server. CALs are required for users to gain access to all of the features provided by the server. Outside users, who do not have access to the features, do not require a CAL but can in some limited instances, still access parts of the server.

  • Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016 Standard Features
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016 Standard provides streamlined use across the server, making it easier to navigate programs and get the most out of all the features available.

More streamlined usability and navigation—With its most important goal in improving overall use, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016 Standard starts by making the whole system easier to navigate.

To start with, the server now has an app launcher feature that gives easy access to all the most important parts of the server. In the app launcher, you can click to instantly go to apps, sites, or files.

OneDrive and document libraries, along with the many improvements listed below, both now have toolbar buttons that address all the basic uses of the programs. You can create or upload folders, upload files, sync your computer to the server, or share with others on the server, all by just clicking a button on the toolbar.

Finally, sites can now be pinned, which allows users to choose their favorite site and make it the first one that appears in their followed sites list. You’ll never have to scroll through to find the information you need again.

OneDrive makeover—OneDrive does more than improve its toolbar, it also gets a redesign to put it in line with the look and use of the more familiar Office 365 version.
Among the new features on OneDrive is the new view options. You can change views to see what has been shared recently, both who is sharing and what has been shared. You can change views again to see just what has been shared with your account, thus removing the need to sort through so many documents to find what you need.

OneDrive also makes it easier to preview video and images by simply hovering over them. Now you don’t have to click to know if such files are important to you.
Finally, OneDrive now includes a recycle bin to make sure you never accidentally delete an important file again.

    Document library improvements
—Like OneDrive, document library sees a large number of improvements that go beyond the toolbar. Also, like OneDrive, one of those improvements is the video and image hover ability.

More important than that are the new ways you can manage the program. Keyboard shortcuts have been added for quick commands, while right clicking also now brings up a menu with the most popular commands, including Download, Open, Share, Rename, Delete, and more.

Uploading also gets an upgrade, with drag and drop improvements, as well as a new ability to upload multiple documents at once.

Finally, documents can be saved in an ODF format (Open Document Format) that allows users to edit them in different programs.

A better mobile browser experience—Much of the remote work done with SharePoint Server is done on mobile devices, so Microsoft has improved the overall experience for phones and tablets. Mobile users can now view the SharePoint Server just as they would on any device. They can switch views between a mobile view and a full web view, which is the exact same as from a desktop computer. There are also touchscreen abilities throughout the server.

Improved site sharing capabilities—It’s now easier to share sites, with a Share button in the top right corner of every site. Checking whether someone has access is simpler as well and can be found in the Settings menu. It’s also more straightforward how to gain access. The server provides a flow for requests that can be approved or rejected by administrators with a single click.

Expanded document saving options—Documents of up to 10 GB can now be saved, and they can be saved with more symbols in the title, including “&” and “~” among others.

  • There are no specific system requirements for a CAL licensed user or device to access the Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016. However, the more up-to-date the device, the more it can enjoy the advanced features found on the server.
