Admit it, you are excited about Microsoft Office 2019. This will be the successor to the 2016 version and a non-subscription edition as well. This is basically being released for those users who aren’t ready to move everything to the cloud and who still rely on a stand-alone version because it makes them feel better. Release for Microsoft Office 2019 is expected to be during the second half of 2018, and while some suggestions and guesses have been made as to how this version of Office will differ from the rest, there are no solid answers right now. Microsoft likes to keep us waiting.

Here are a few sneak peeks, but there’s no guarantee they will show up in Office 2019 when it ships. It’s not a lot to go on now, but we’ll see when Office finally hits the streets.

Word

  • Black theme (not too exciting, but hey, we can always use another theme)
  • Office sounds (okay, this sounds fun)
  • Learning tools, captions, and audio descriptions (getting warmer)
  • Text to speech (This sounds great. Hope it pans out)
  • Improved inking functionality (Again, great)
  • Accessibility improvements (Better accessibility is always good)

Excel

The features hinted at for Excel are looking pretty good.

  • Funnel charts and 2D maps (Good stuff)
  • New Excel functions and connectors
  • Publish Excel to PowerBI
  • PowerPivot enhancements
  • PowerQuery enhancements

PowerPoint

A few very nice additions to PowerPoint, which is already a great presentation program.

  • Zoom capabilities for ordering of slides within presentations
  • Morph transition feature
  • Insert and manage Icons, SVG, and 3D models
  • Improved roaming pencil case

Outlook

  • Updated contact cards
  • Office 365 Groups*
  • @mentions
  • Focused inbox
  • Travel and delivery summary cards

There will also be intelligent security options, which sounds like a winner. The security features for Office 2019 for Windows Perpetual are like those of Office 2016 with the addition of Windows Information Protection (WIP) for apps. Perpetual versions of Office, however, including Office 2019, will not have a large number of intelligent security features because data isn't connected to the cloud. To get all of the intelligent security features, you will need to be using Office 365.

Office 2019 for Mac

Yes, Mac users will get their hands on the latest and greatest Office 2019. Here are some of the things to look forward to if it all pans out.

  • Focused inbox
