Microsoft Exchange 2016 Standard User CAL - Open Government

In order for government to function at all, people have to be able to communicate. Whether it is colleagues within an office, office-to-office, or between an office and politicians, constituents, or companies, various forms of communication must take place. And that communication needs to be done efficiently and to be well-organized for government workers to be productive.

Microsoft Exchange 2016 Standard is designed to handle all those communication needs. With User CALs, more users within the office are able to enjoy the benefits of better email, remote access to communication, and vast collaborative features that will make their jobs easier and their work production more fruitful.

    What Is Microsoft Exchange?

Microsoft Exchange is a server dedicated to improving communication for government offices. It provides emailing, instant messaging, calendar, scheduling, and contact organizing services, and more. It allows for remote access for users to remain connected to all the server features anywhere. Recent editions also help to integrate crucial cloud-focused and collaborative programs like SharePoint and Office 365 programs. It also has data loss prevention and compliance features to help government offices control sensitive data.

What Is an Open Government License?

An Open Government License is a volume license that allows a government office to run the Microsoft Exchange server. It is ideally suited for between two and 250 users but can accommodate up to 750 users.

  • Microsoft Exchange 2016 Standard Features

Microsoft Exchange 2016 Standard improves remote use, emailing, collaboration, and compliance tools, as well as much more. It upgrades all the major uses of the server for superior results in the office.

Better Remote Access for Mobile Devices—Work and work-related communication doesn’t end at the end of the work day, instead, it comes with us 24/7. That makes it crucial that a communication-focused server provide access to those communications at all times and places. Microsoft Exchange 2016 Standard does just that, and now better than ever, thanks to improvements for Android and iOS devices, making it easier to access and use all the server functions on phones and tablets.

New Email Efficiencies with Outlook for the Web—Outlook for the Web has several new features that provide a better emailing experience to users. First, there is the one-line preview for all emails, allowing users to know the general contents of an email without having to open it first. Calendar also has improved integration features, reminding users about upcoming events and showing where conflicts arise for immediate rescheduling. Outlook has made it easier to add LinkedIn contacts, and new themes are available as well.

Powerful Collaboration Features—Among the most useful additions are the numerous collaboration features available, including:
Site mailboxes allow users to pool together email and SharePoint shared documents for projects, making it easier to switch between crucial communication and important files. Site mailboxes work best with deadlines and can have set start and end dates.
Public Folders organized complex and sometimes scattered data into hierarchies, which can then be browsed by users to find unexpected insights. The hierarchy is always visible, creating a reference point for all the data.
Shared mailboxes are mailboxes with multiple users able to share contacts and send and receive email. It works well for teams that need to share all email and as a generic email address for customers or constituents to use for comments and questions.
Groups gathers together all contacts that share certain characteristics or interests. This allows for simple group emailing that makes sure all the right people find out about information important to them.

Office 365 hybrid wizard—The connection between the Exchange server and Office 365 is likely only going to get stronger as Microsoft focuses more attention on the 365 brand. To help integrate the two, there is a cloud-based Office 365 hybrid wizard app that runs troubleshooting and diagnostics to check for issues in the integration. It also updates regularly to help avoid issues creeping up in the first place.

Better and faster searches—Searches are now asynchronous and decentralized and is able to search across multiple servers, returning to those which are busy. This leads to faster and more thorough results. Search also comes with search suggestions and refiners to help guide users to the best search results.

More Data Loss Prevention—Microsoft Exchange 2016 Standard has new ways to make sure sensitive data is never placed in the wrong hands. First, the server recognizes 80 types of sensitive data. New features make it possible to make sure that data isn’t sent through email.

Upgraded compliance tools—Compliance Search has unlimited search abilities. It can search all mailboxes on the server and can search an infinite number of times. In addition, In-Place eDiscovery searches Public Folders, while In-Place Hold makes it possible to put a hold on all Public Folders.

  • There are no specific requirements for users to access the Microsoft Exchange 2016 Standard server through a User CAL.
