Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Academic Edition with 10 CALs

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Academic Edition with 10 CALs includes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition and 10 Client Access Licenses (CALs). It is specifically designed for up to ten users in an educational setting, which could include a department, a lab, or a class.

Microsoft gives advantageous pricing to schools for their products, so only educational institutions can purchase Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Academic Edition with 10 CALs. You must provide proof that you are eligible for this version of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 with 10 CALs.

In Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Academic Edition with 10 CALs, you will get an information platform where applications can be easily developed and deployed, database administration has been enhanced, data is more secure, and great tools have been created to give you the big picture of your data and tell you what that means for change and improvement.

Features

One of the really nice features in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Academic Edition with 10 CALs is the capability of creating self-contained virtual databases – multiple instances of the same database. What this allows you to do is direct traffic on the server so that you don’t get a log jam caused by everyone hitting the same single database at once. You will see significant improvements in database and server responsiveness.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Academic Edition with 10 CALs has business intelligence tools that can be very useful in an academic setting for things like enrollment, student/teacher ratio, student/class proportions, etc. Applications for BI can be written using Business Intelligence Development Studio.

Business intelligence tools are critical to helping you visualize your data in a way that you can clearly identify what is happening on a detailed level in your institution. These tools enable you to see where growth is occurring and can help you plan in terms of more faculty and staff hires, additional computer facilities, upgrades to classrooms and libraries, and even new housing and services (dining, shopping, etc.) construction.

Computer uptime is critical in academic settings because students need to have 24/7 access to campus computer resources to do their work. Staff and faculty also rely on having computer services available when they are working and teaching.

One way that Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Academic Edition with 10 CALs answers this need is with two-node failover clustering. Two-node failover clusters lets you set up two nodes to work together so that if you have a hardware failure on one server, the other server keeps working and there is no downtime.

Another feature in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Academic Edition with 10 CALs that addresses server availability (as well as disaster recovery) is database mirroring. This capability lets you create two SQL Server instances that are mirror images of each other (when one is updated, so is the other) on either one server or on a different server.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Academic Edition with 10 CALs has made database administration much more efficient and secure. With new features like database backup compression, Optimize Hardware Resources,Extensible Key Management, and Transparent Data Encryption, database administrators have the ability to backup and restore databases quickly, to apply and enforce groups policies across the entire platform, to secure encryption keys from intrusion, and to encrypt entire databases for easy and secure migration.
