Other Windows 10 features
The Start Button
Perhaps the most obvious and most appreciated feature found in Windows 10 is the return of the Start menu. After the controversial decision to remove the menu from Windows 8, Microsoft has had second thoughts and brought the feature back. Upon opening the menu neatly located in the bottom left of your screen, you have the option to do basic tasks such as quickly start any of your installed applications, open your settings for Windows, or to shut down and restart your device or sign out of your user. More than that, it has incorporated Metro tiles into the Start menu, so that users get the best of the classic design and the Metro design.
Most users these days don’t do all their computing on a single device. They have a phone, a tablet, and a desktop or laptop. The convenience of these devices is limited when the apps used on each platform don’t match up properly. Windows 10 solves this problem by using universal apps on all platforms that behave the exact same, providing the same experience no matter how they are accessed.
With the inclusion of the Windows Store, users have all their apps, music, movies, TV, and more all in a single location. With a single click, users can find exactly what they need in this vast library.
Incredible new navigation tools are at your fingertips with Cortana. For Windows users who have grown jealous of Apple user’s reliance on Siri or Amazon user’s connection to Alexa, they can now brag about just how well-integrated Cortana is to Windows 10 Home. Simply speak a command, and Cortana will run the right programs or do the right searches. It’s hands-free and easy to use.
Just as most users work on different devices, modern computer capabilities make it easier to work from multiple windows for vast multitasking. The problem is finding the window you need quickly and having access to multiple windows when you need them. The new task view allows users to find the windows they need and then set them up in quadrants that take up part of the screen so multiple windows are right in front of you at all times.
Better Internet browsing is now available for customers with Edge. Since Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has long been seen and treated as the least appealing of the major browser options, Microsoft took notice of this and developed a new browser called Edge. This new web browser has already shown it is one of the best browsers available to this day, and it comes preinstalled in your new operating system. Edge is faster, has innovative features that you can’t find in other competitor browsers, and it’s perfectly integrated with Windows 10 and its own features such as Cortana.
Switching between a touch-based device and one that doesn't have touchscreen support has previously been a bit of a hassle with different operating systems. Windows 10 Home solves the problem with Continuum, which automatically finds out the touch capabilities of a device and adjusts the system accordingly, sparing you the time and stress it could possibly take to change settings manually.
