    Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Datacenter

Still the Reigning Champion for Quality Networking Solutions

What exactly are you looking for in a server for your business? You probably want a server that, above all else, works efficiently and has the kind of power and capability to handle any and all tasks you assign it. You’ll want some virtualization capabilities to start employing virtual machines when you can. You'll want some excellent remote access options. You’ll need data security. And you’ll want some assurance that your server will be stable and work when and how you need it.

That’s a long list of demands, but thankfully for you, there’s a server that offers all of that and more: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Datacenter. With Datacenter, you’ll be able to get everything you need from the server, including extensive capabilities and incredible reliability.

That mix is precisely why Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Datacenter has remained so viable an option for businesses so many years after it was first released.

All the Features Your Business Needs to Succeed Digitally

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Datacenter remains such a competitive server solution more than a decade after its debut. The server has the kind of memory capacity, server speed, administration options, and server capabilities you need to create the solutions you need today, all these years later.

Some of what makes this so possible is listed below:

    • Room for more hardware capabilities: With so many powerful server solutions listed below, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Datacenter requires more powerful hardware supporting it. That’s why Datacenter comes with the room for up to 2 TB of RAM and the ability to run between 8 and 64 processors. Those hardware upgrades allow the server to pack far more of a punch when you need it.
    • A safer and faster server option: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Datacenter with its graphic user interface (GUI) is fast and reliable enough for most uses, but it comes with an even faster and safer option in the Server Core mode. This allows you to remove the GUI and run the server by commands. It makes it possible for you to have a server that requires fewer patches, less maintenance, and that is less exposed to the threats that plague most servers.
    • Cut straight to your commands: If you don’t want to run the Server Core option, get the same kind of command response through PowerShell, which can reduce the time to administer commands to an instant from minutes or even hours. With a set of cmdlets, PowerShell can respond to many of your server management demands at the core level, giving you a faster and more efficient option that’s easy to deploy whenever you need it.
    • Join the virtualization world: No server could get by these days without including some virtualization capabilities. With Hyper-V included on this server, you get just that: high-quality virtual machine deployment, which allows you to develop apps, run programs and operating systems that aren’t compatible with your server, and find all kinds of solutions by partitioning your physical server into virtual servers. There’s so much potential here, Hyper-V makes the price of the server worth paying for on its own.
    • Keep your data secure: There are plenty of threats lurking out there for businesses. The best way to avoid them is through a robust security defense for your server. You get that with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Datacenter, with programs like BitLocker, Nap, and Address Space Load Randomization. These programs aren’t the limit of your security. There’s also the far more secure Server Core mode discussed above, and more security included in Internet Information Services 7.
    • Improve your remote access to your apps: Get a better remote experience by providing better access to server apps with RemoteApps. This allows users to access the apps themselves without having to run a whole remote desktop.
    • More stable, more reliable, and easier to run: It includes new Failover Clustering, which makes sure your server features and roles are always available. Improvements to the NTFS file system help avoid data corruption and other file issues. The Active Directory is also far more expansive, allowing you, along with PowerShell, to run the server more effectively.
    • Processor: 1GHz (x86) or 1.4 GHz (x64) minimum; 2 GHz or faster recommended; Itanium users must have two processors
    • Memory: 512 MB minimum; 2 GB or more recommended; 2 TB maximum in Datacenter edition
    • Available Hard Disk Space: 10 GB minimum; 40 GB or more recommended; 16 GB minimum to run dump files, paging, and hibernation
  • 4.5 / 5.0
